Teachers across Dominica will gather in Castle Bruce today for a grand rally and sports day which forms part of World Teacher’s Day celebrations. The activity organized by the Dominica Association of Teachers (DAT) will take place on the Castle Bruce Playing Field.
“The week’s celebration will culminate with a grand rally and sports day at Castle Bruce with Teacher’s Day celebration,” Public Relations Officer of the DAT, Juanita Carbon said. “We will begin at 9 a.m. with a special service at the Castle Bruce Roman Catholic Church.”
She continued, “There will be a lot of attractive prizes to be won.”
She said further that teachers will be remembering their fallen heroes in education, “as well as honouring our living legends, our retired educators.”
Miss Carbon called on all teachers in Dominica to journey with the DAT to Castle Bruce as they celebrate Teacher’s Day 2023 together.
According to unesco.org World Teacher’s Day is held annually on October 5 to celebrate all teachers around the globe. It commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which sets benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers, and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, teaching and learning conditions.
It is a day to celebrate how teachers are transforming education but also to reflect on the support they need to fully deploy their talent and vocation and to rethink the way ahead for the profession globally.
The theme for World Teacher’s Day 2023 is: “The Teachers We Need for the Education We Want: The Global Imperative to Reverse the Teacher Shortage”.
