We must have NYS in Haiti so that they have jobs

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 3 – Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management Moses Kuria has averred that the National Youth Service (NYS) servicemen will be part of the Special Forces that the government is planning to send to Haiti in what is now popularly known as the Haiti Mission.

Kuria who was speaking in Citole showground  during the launch of NYS Interventions for Agriculture and Food Security observed that the program is anchored on ensuring that youths in the county get employment.

”In the new job that the president has assigned me, he has told me not to slumber until all Kenyan youth get jobs. If I hear anywhere where there are jobs, I will take the youths. We must have the NYS in Haiti so that they have jobs,” said Kuria.

The fate of the deployment however still lies with the high court after it extended an order restraining Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki from deploying Kenya’s police units as part of the multinational security mission in Haiti. High court had in October given an extension to the hearings scheduled for November 9.

The UN Security Council had however in October given Kenya a nod to deploy 1000 police in Haiti in an effort to flush out gangs in the North American country.

Haiti has been grappling with a surge in violence since the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in July 2021 at his private residence in the capital, Port-au-Prince, triggering calls for a security intervention to complement the efforts of understaffed and under-resourced Haiti national police force.
