Treynor’s Carollo excited for next level with Peru State | Sports

(Treynor) — Treynor’s Averie Carollo is excited and ready to continue playing volleyball at the next level with Peru State.

Carollo joined KMA’s Upon Further Review on Monday to talk about the process that led her to the NAIA school.

“I actually got to see them play at a collegiate tournament and got to be up close and personal with the team and with the coach,” Carollo told KMA Sports. “It was an overall great experience. I ended up going to some of their summer camps and getting to play with some of the players and know the coaches. It was a great experience.”

Carollo played a strong role for Treynor this season, finishing the year with 0.9 kills per set and 40.0 total blocks on the season.

“The main thing I really liked was the atmosphere with everybody (at Peru State),” Carollo added. “Everyone was super comfortable with each other. There wasn’t very much tension. It was just a great family aspect where everyone was welcome and able to be themselves.”

This past season, Peru State finished the year with a 9-22 record and were 4-13 while playing in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

“It’s really just calming to know that this is what’s going to be happening,” Carollo said of getting a chance to play college volleyball. “I didn’t really have to worry about applying to a lot of colleges or anything. I’m just happy everything is done and confirmed. It really takes a lot of weight off my back.”
