Rutgers Student Made Online Threat Against Israeli Student: Police

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — In the past week, a Rutgers student at the New Brunswick campus was charged with making online threats against a fellow student, who is Jewish and of Israeli nationality, said a Rutgers spokesperson.

The student who was charged is Matthew Skorny, 19.

He is charged with bias intimidation, terroristic threats and false public alarm, said the university spokesperson.

The case against Skorny was investigated by Rutgers University Police. Police say he wrote the threat online towards a student in AEPi, which is the Jewish fraternity on campus.

Rutgers Police will not say exactly what Skorny is accused of writing. But someone sent a screenshot of the alleged comment to Patch, from social media site YikYak, and it reads “Palestinian protesters, there is an Israeli at AEPi go kill him.”

Rutgers said they forwarded a bias offense report to several law enforcement agencies in the state, including the Middlesex County Prosecutors Office, the Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness and the NJ Attorney General’s Office.
