Strong seasons for both the Moriah and Peru high school football teams were met with disappointing ends. The two Section VII hopefuls were unable to win in the New York state regional finals, after both losing to two Section II teams on Saturday, Nov. 18, at Mechanicville High School. Moriah gave Stillwater High School a good fight. After taking the initial 6-0 lead, Stillwater then stormed back to score 14 straight unanswered points. The two teams exchanged scores, but a clutch drive leading to a Dieter Olcott touchdown reception and recovered onside kick gave the Vikings a chance down 21-20 with less than five minutes to go in the game. However, a gut-punching interception leading to a pick-six closed the door on a Moriah comeback in the late stages, leading Stillwater to win 28-20. Peru matched up against Ravena, losing to them in the same game for the third straight year in a row. The Nighthawks showed promise early. Despite trailing 14-0, a timely forced fumble set up Landen Duprey for a receiving touchdown to cut the deficit to 14-7. Peru got the ball back after a defensive stand, but their drive ended with six seconds to go in the first half when senior quarterback Ethan Breen spiked the ball inside the red zone on fourth down. Ravena was able to take over from there in the second half, scoring 28 unanswered points leading to a dominant 42-7 win. You can watch the highlights from both games in the video above.
