Canadian Woman Dies in Canyoning Accident in Dominica: Police Investigating

On December 28, 2023, the tranquil Roseau Valley area near Trafalgar Falls in Dominica was disrupted when a canyoning adventure turned fatal. The victim was 28-year-old Karlyn Langridge from British Columbia, Canada. The incident occurred while Langridge was rappelling with her boyfriend, also from British Columbia, who fortunately escaped unscathed.

Unfortunate Turn of Events

During the activity, Langridge became unresponsive. Despite the swift intervention of local tour guides and the arrival of first responders from fire and ambulance services, all attempts to revive her proved futile. She was immediately transported to the Dominica China Friendship Hospital, where a medical doctor pronounced her dead.

Investigation Underway

The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) has since taken up the investigation, led by Inspector Fixton Henderson. Sincere condolences have been extended by the CDPF to the bereaved family. The cause of death remains unknown, and the police force awaits the result of an autopsy to shed light on this tragic incident.

A Day of Fatality

Surprisingly, Langridge’s death was not the only fatality reported on December 28. In the community of Calibishie, another death was reported, marking a somber day for the island nation. Meanwhile, there was a disruption in the electricity generation capacity due to a dislodged pipeline at Trafalgar. The issue was swiftly addressed by Dominica Electricity Services Limited (DOMLEC) with a temporary solution being put in place.

This is not the first death investigated by the CDPF. In August 2022, the police force probed the death of Louisa Dorothy Prince, who was believed to have been electrocuted in Beau Bois. As the island nation grapples with these tragedies, it is evident that safety measures and protocols need to be reevaluated to prevent such unfortunate incidents in the future.
