The afrobeat wave is making its way to Cincinnati.
Ghanaian artist King Promise will perform at Cove 51 in Sharonville on Saturday, Oct. 15, as part of his U.S. “5 Star” tour that begins Sept. 24 in New York City. It coincides with his recent album of the same name, which dropped on July 22.
On Sunday, Sept. 26, the artist confirmed his Cincinnati show in a tweet stating, “I’m GASSED! See y’all soon.”

This will be his first time performing in the Queen City.
The show begins at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are currently on sale starting at $34.99 and can be purchased through eventbrite.com.
Who is King Promise?
Gregory Newman, who goes by the stage name King Promise, is a Ghanaian highlife and afrobeat singer-songwriter signed to Sony Music UK.
According to his website, his father helped shape his music tastes by immersing him in everything from reggae to R&B. To this day, Promise finds inspiration from a wide range of sounds, notably Ghanaian drill, South African amapiano and U.K. hip-hop.
His 15-track sophomore album “5 Star” includes a mix of British drill, Dutch and Nigerian afropop and American hip-hop. Notable songs from the album include:
- “10 Toes” featuring Nigerian singer Omah Lay.
- “Bad n Rude” featuring British afroswing collective WSTRN.
- “Choplife” featuring Nigerian singer Patoranking.
- “Run to You” featuring American rappers Chance the Rapper and Vic Mensa.
