Trinidad and Tobago U20 head coach Brian Haynes said he wants his team to win their Group D match against Dominica on Sunday without the error that almost cost them a win in their opening match against St Vincent and the Grenadines.
T&T edged past St Vincent 3-2 with Michael Chaves scoring with the last kick of the game on Friday.
With Canada demolishing Dominica 8-0 in their opening match, Haynes laid out what he wants from his team on Sunday.
“We need to win and we need to win without giving up any goals. We’ve given up enough goals now with these two. We need to go win this game that’s coming up. No disrespect to Dominica,” he said.
“People play for their countries. We’re going to respect that, we’re going to make sure that we will put the work into to come and get a result so that we can make Canada realize that they have a game coming up on Tuesday,” Haynes added.
T&T may be without star player Lindell Sween for the Dominica match after the player was taken off the field in a stretcher on Friday complaining of swollen calf muscles.
“We are going to miss his technical ability. He is a special player. That, yes, we will miss. We think his health is more important than him pushing himself through when we have other guys who can bear the load till he gets back,” he said.
Haynes was not altogether pleased with his team’s performance on Friday, saying that they did not stick to their plans in the opening half of the game.
“We’ve been doing one thing for the last couple of weeks, putting the ball down and playing, and then all of a sudden tonight, we started playing these long balls,” he said.
Trinidad and Tobago play Dominica at the Hasely Crawford Stadium from 7pm, with Canada facing St Vincent and the Grenadines in the 4pm match.
