It turns out the people of New Brunswick are the most foul-mouthed of all Canadians, at least when it comes to their online chatter.
Online casino resource BonusFinder Canada has ranked Canada’s rudest provinces, based on how much swearing happens on posts for key province and city subreddit pages.
Based on that metric, New Brunswick came out on top with 7.8 cuss words per post, Alberta came in second with 6.6, and Ontario tied Saskatchewan with 5.7 for third.
The F-word is the nation’s favourite swear word, according to the findings, used about 20.2 per cent of the time when swearing happens. The S-word came in second with 19 per cent, and also happens to be the favourite swear word for half of Canada’s provinces, including Ontario.
BonusFinder says it used a profanity lexicon to extract, count and collate 88 profanities. The top “hot” posts and their full comment tree were scraped for every subreddit using URS, with 1,000 as the maximum number of “hot” posts used per subreddit.
Here’s how the provinces ranked:
1. New Brunswick: 248 posts, 1,926 cuss words, 7.8 cuss words per post
2. Alberta: 1,097 posts, 7,207 cuss words, 6.6 cuss words per post
3. Ontario: 1,954 posts, 11,228 cuss words, 5.7 cuss words per post
3. Saskatchewan: 408 posts, 2,322 cuss words, 5.7 cuss words per post
5. British Columbia: 1,004 posts, 3,759 cuss words, 3.7 cuss words per post
6. Manitoba: 192 posts, 655 cuss words, 3.4 cuss words per post
7. Nova Scotia: 311 posts, 918 cuss words, 3 cuss words per post
8. Newfoundland: 446 posts, 1,291 cuss words, 2.9 cuss words per post
9. Prince Edward Island: 242 posts, 654 cuss words, 2.7 cuss words per post
10. Quebec: 2,270 posts, 1,692 cuss words, 0.7 cuss words per post
