NSU16AAAHL: Cape Breton’s Cabot Highlanders defeated twice by Moncton Thunderbirds in New Brunswick

MONCTON, N.B. – The Cabot Highlanders dropped a pair of games in Nova Scotia Under-16 ‘AAA’ Hockey League in New Brunswick over the weekend.

On Sunday, the Port Hawkesbury-based Highlanders lost 7-3 to the Moncton Thunderbirds at Superior Propane Centre.

Olivier Chiasson had a goal and four assists while Drew Betts and Ryan Swasson both scored twice. Alim Sagadiyev and Christian Gaudet also scored for the Thunderbirds.

Alexander Broussard, Nolan MacNeil and Landon Webb replied with goals for the Highlanders.

Moncton’s Zackary David made 13 saves. Cabot’s Tucker Broussard stopped 37 of 44 shots.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, the Thunderbirds blanked the Highlanders 5-0 at J.K. Irving Arena in Bouctouche, N.B.

Betts, Samuel Robinson and Gabriel Comeau each had a goal and an assist while Timothy Bedford and Quinn Preston also added goals for the Thunderbirds.

Moncton’s Hayden Paris stopped all 15 shots he faced. Cabot’s Mason Doucet turned aside 47 of 52 shots.

The Cape Breton Jets were not in action over the weekend.
