Ssangyong Engineering & Construction (E&C) announced that it has won the final order for the construction and operation of solar power generation facilities and energy storage system (ESS) facilities in Haiti ordered by Haiti’s Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF).

The project is to build and operate a solar power plant (12 MW) and an 10 MWh ESS on a site as wide as 30 football fields (200,000 square meters) combined to supply power to the Caracol Industrial Park in Haiti, where a Global Sae-A factory is located, for five years with a project size of USUS$57 million.

The most significant feature of this project is that it is the first order that Ssangyong E&C won by utilizing Global Sae-A Group’s support and synergies among group affiliates, since Global Sae-A Group became the largest shareholder of Ssangyong E&C. Ssangyong E&C’s bid and construction plan passed client review based on the group’s solar design and construction experience in Nicaragua along with strong support from the group’s top management.

In addition, this is Ssangyong E&C’s first foray into Latin America and is expected to serve as a bridgehead for the Korean builder to enter the Latin American region including Costa Rica, Dominica, Guatemala and Nicaragua, where Global Sae-A is doing business.

“With this order, we will be able to catch two birds with one stone — developing new markets and participating in new businesses — through support and cooperation with Global Sae-A affiliates,” an official from Ssangyong E&C said.  “Based on this, we will continue to pursue new and eco-friendly businesses at home and abroad.”
