Dominica Police Investigate Tragic String of Incidents
The tranquility of Dominica has been interrupted by a series of unfortunate events, including a fatal chopping, a canyoning accident, and a hit-and-run, prompting an urgent investigation by local authorities. The incidents, which took place in various parts of the island, including Calibishie, Trafalgar Falls, and Fond Cole Health Center, have sparked community concern and calls for action.
Calibishie Chopping: A Grim First for the Area
On December 28th, an unidentified male fell victim to a fatal chopping in Calibishie. This marked the first homicide for the area. As news of the incident spread, shockwaves ran through the community, sparking fear and outrage. In response to the gruesome incident, the local residents are organizing a ‘White Peace March’, an event aimed at protesting violence and promoting unity in the wake of the tragedy.
Trafalgar Falls Tragedy: Canyoning Expedition Turns Fatal
In a separate incident, a female participant during a canyoning adventure at Trafalgar Falls became unresponsive mid-descent. Despite the quick response and relentless CPR efforts, her life could not be saved. Reports clarified that the victim did not fall, but rather, became unresponsive during the rappelling phase of the journey.
Fond Cole Hit-and-Run: A Desperate Appeal for Justice
The hit-and-run incident near Fond Cole Health Center on December 27th left Owan Joseph critically injured. The driver fled the scene, leaving the victim in a dire state. Joseph’s family has since appealed to the driver to come forward and take responsibility for their actions, urging anyone with information to assist in bringing the perpetrator to justice.
Amidst these incidents, questions also loom over the death of Uwe Mullar, a 69-year-old German vacationer who died while diving at Calibishie. If confirmed as a drowning, Mullar would become the fifth such victim of 2022. As investigations into these incidents continue with the help of two assisting individuals, the community’s collective call is for an end to the violence and a return to peace.
