New Brunswick NJ Elks Club could be replaced with luxury high-rise
NEW BRUNSWICK – It’s the look of the new New Brunswick.
The Liv, a 23-story apartment building, is proposed to be built at the site of the New Brunswick Elks Club at 40 Livingston Ave.
But The Elks will still have a home – a 6,840-square-foot space on the first floor of the building that will have a total of 407 apartments.
New Street Associates is scheduled to appear Nov. 13 before the city Planning Board for a hearing on the proposal that also includes 2,008 square feet of retail space on Morris Street.
The high-rise will contain a seven-level parking deck with 365 spaces. Plans also call for 110 bicycle spaces.
On the seventh floor will be a swimming pool, fitness center, a yoga room and a club room.

The plans call for a mix of market-rate apartments – 79 studios, 165 one-bedroom units, 54 one-bedroom units with a den, 89 two-bedroom units and 20 two-bedroom units with a den.
A message left Friday for a representative of the New Brunswick Elks Lodge has not yet been returned.
The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America is a charitable organization that dates to 1868. Today members of the Elks Lodge invest in their communities through programs that help children grow up healthy and drug-free, meet the needs of today’s veterans, and improve the quality of life, according to the national organization’s website.
The site also contains the George Street Co-Op, a nonprofit natural foods store owned and run by its members. The store’s general manager said the co-op will occupy 2,008 square feet of retail space on the first floor of the new building.
The applicant will be seeking variance relief to provide two 40-foot long by 8-foot wide on-street loading spaces when an off-street loading space is required for the building located in the C4/Downtown Development District Renewal Area Zoning district.
