Brooklyn-born Afrobeat ensemble Antibalas returned home over the weekend to play the band’s annual two-night run at Brooklyn Bowl.

The band performed Friday and Saturday night, with an opening set from DJ Rob Castillo each night. Friday’s show also featured a set by Kaethe Hostetter, performing Impressions of Ethiopa, and Saturday’s program included a set from Antibalas saxophonist Stuart Bogie’s Wooden Hands project.

The hometown run celebrated the end of a productive year for Antibalas. The 12-piece collective has kept busy since welcoming new vocalist Marcus Farrar, who took on the role of lead singer/frontman following the departure of longtime singer/percussionist Duke Amayo in 2021. The band composed two albums worth of new music it has honed on the road touring throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Mexico. No word yet on when the band will return to the studio.
