A preliminary hearing will take place in April for the man accused of killing his estranged wife, leaving the body of the Guadalupe woman in a vehicle parked in San Diego and fleeing.
German Armando LaraSalazar, 45, has been charged in San Diego County Superior Court with one count of murder and a special allegation or sentencing enhancement.
Leyva Elizabeth Oregel Garcia, 32, of Guadalupe died in what San Diego police labeled a homicide after she went missing during the summer. Family referred to LaraSalazar as her ex-husband.
The criminal complaint alleges he used a vacuum cleaner cord to kill the mother of two on July 1.
On July 2, family members had reported Garcia missing after she left with the man they called her ex-husband to clean offices in Paso Robles a day earlier and never returned home.
Just before 12:30 a.m. on July 4, a caller alerted San Diego Police Department dispatchers about what appeared to be a body inside a vehicle parked in a lot on the 4400 block of Camino De La Plaza in the San Ysidro neighborhood of San Diego.
LaraSalazar was last seen leaving the area on foot, and possibly fled to Mexico.
He turned himself in at the border on Aug. 19, and was arrested at that time, according to the San Diego Police Department.
He was arraigned in San Diego County Superior Court on Aug. 23, and pleaded not guilty.
His next hearing in San Diego County courtroom is a readiness conference in February, with a preliminary hearing tentatively planned in April.
LunaSalazar remains in the custody of the San Diego County Jail, where he is being held without bail.
If convicted, he faces 25 years to life in prison for the murder charge, plus an additional year for the special allegation.
