Dominicans have been advised to put their hurricane response plan in motion as the island could feel the effects of a storm next week.
The Dominica Meteorological Service said a low pressure system, which has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression or tropical storm, will pass through the Lesser Antilles between Wednesday and Friday.
While islanders may have their minds set on participating in festivities associated with Jounen Kwéyòl (Creole Day), the Met Service said it is important that Dominicans “ensure that their preparedness plans are in place and ready to be activated for their protection, should this become necessary.”

The Met Service added that every Dominican has a role to play in the island’s hurricane preparedness effort.
At 8 am on Sunday, the US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) said the system, which is located several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands is producing disorganised showers and thunderstorms.
“While this system has become less organised since yesterday, the overall environmental conditions are forecast to become more conducive for development, and a tropical depression or tropical storm is still likely to form within the next few days while the system moves westward or west-north-westward across the central and western tropical Atlantic,” NHC said.
NHC has given the low pressure a 90 per cent chance of development over the next seven days.
If the low pressure becomes a tropical storm, it will be called Tammy.
Tammy will be the 20th tropical cyclone of this year’s Atlantic Hurricane Season.
