Haiti Mission: English Proficiency, Mentality Fit Among Requirements for Officers to be Deployed

  • Kenya is expected to deploy 1,000 police officers to Haiti to help in combating street gangs beginning January 2023
  • The National Police Service (NPS) has instructed Officers Commanding Stations to select two officers to be part of the special team

Nairobi – The National Police Service (NPS) has begun assembling a team of police officers to be deployed to Haiti.

In a confidential communication, the OCSs have been instructed to select two officers from their station to form part of the special unit.

“The unit is in the process of conducting a selection exercise of suitable officers for the special assignment. In view of this, you are urgently required to submit the names of the officers. Each to nominate two police constables and one CPL,” read the letter seen by TUKO.co.ke.

Those to be picked are supposed to have a minimum of five years of active service in the national police service, and these officers must be aged between 20 and 55 years.

According to the communication, the officer must not have more than two convictions and the last one not less than six months.

At the same time, one must be mentally, physically and medically fit to be considered for the Haiti Mission.

NSP also wants officers with the ability to handle their firearms and proven shooting skills safely

Last, OCSs have been asked to ensure those chosen have proficiency in English and demonstrate clear command and control.
