Haiti has long been the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, but the current situation is especially dire, worsened by the political and crime situation. The area is home to tens of thousands of people struggling for daily survival. Children are starving; the meal they receive at school is often the only one they get. Despite this, they continue to attend school and set record-breaking numbers for graduation and exams.
